Astrology is based on math, just like accounting and music. Astrological geometric angles and music theory scales are both derived from mathematical theorems. Many great thinkers including Galileo, Kepler, Hippocrates, and Benjamin Franklin who included astrological information in his Poor Richard's Almanack, were astrologers. More recently, U.S. President Ronald Reagan, and performers Cameron Diaz and Lady Gaga have used astrology to their advantage.

Because there are many ways to add two numbers to ten; both math and music create varied language frameworks. Accounting frameworks include US and International; music frameworks include major and minor. Similarly, there are many astrological language frameworks used throughout the world including Indian Vedic, Chinese, and Western Tropical. I practice Western Tropical, which starts the 12 zodiac signs at the spring equinox and is the common astrology language used in the United States.

Astrology can be a practical method for life navigation. We were all born with specific celestial energies when we took our first breath - calculated by our birth day, time, place, and year - the natal horoscope. Each planet may be in a different position and sign. Every person's natal horoscope contains many planets and stars, some of which are displayed in the photo above. An astrology reading can increase birth energy awareness for:

• PLANNING: Astrology allows us to practically strategize our forward motion. Astrological interpretation is very much like weather forecasting; one can analyze if current planetary positioning is smooth or if those planets are knocking around creating a rainstorm - is an umbrella needed?
• SELF-KNOWLEDGE: Astrology can help us gain greater self-knowledge. One premise is that it is not what happens to us in life that matters, but how we react to life. Why are some rich people miserable and some poor people happy? By gaining greater self-understanding as defined by the stars, we can “act” with intention to events, instead of “reacting” in a haphazard fashion.
• ACCEPTANCE: Astrology can bring acceptance and perspective. Life can be hard. When an astrologer you have never met (i.e., an “independent” source), pinpoints specific life details, one may feel a sense of awe, wonder, and peace surrounding universal energy synchronicity and through the astrological reading gain additional life perspective.
